The thirteenth edition of Taklimakan Rally will be held from June 2nd to 14th in the Xinjiang province, located in the far West of People’s Republic of China. The high point of the event should be the cross of the tricky Taklamakan desert in the final third of the route.
Gateway for the central Asia and multicultural capital city of the Xinjiang province, Ürümqi will be the host of the opening and closing ceremony of 2018 Taklimakan Rally. The route, designed as a loop, will be the scene of a competition between racing cars, trucks, bikesand ATVs during nine stages and 2769 kilometers of selectives sections. The difficulties of the route, proposed by the recce teams, will rise constantly even if the organization wished to schedule two rest days in order to offer to competitors a maximum of opportunities to reach the final of the rally.
The administratives and technicals scrutineerings will take place at the Ürümqi Yuehe Auto Creative Industrial Park on May 31st and June 1st. Competitors will then get straight to the difficulties during the first stages after a light warm-up on June 2nd. They will approach the Turpan Depression, one of the lowest exposed point on the Earth’s surface approximatively 150 meters below sea level, located on the ancient Silk Road. No sand yet, but some stages designed in very dry deserts with multiple tracks. Competitors will have to be smart in order to not loose any chance of a competitive race after the first third part of the rally.
2018 Taklimakan Rally will head East towards Hami on June 7th. The heat waves will continue to tire the bodies which should be already well exhausted. The 491 kilometers long of selectives sections of stage 6, the longest of the rally, will be without any doubt a tough challenge to achieve right before the second rest day.
