Tuareg Rally 2016 starts with a typical Moroccan day
The first stage in the Tuareg Rally began with Dutch success. Maikel Verkade started very well and won the special with ten minutes ahead and Marc Leo won the trucks.
However, the day before did not go entirely smoothly for Verkade. Verkade crashed after 100 kilometers and broke his footrest. This caused some discomfort, especially when standing. Also, Martin van den Brink had a good day with his Renault truck.
The day started with a very short prologue. The level differences are relatively large with a number of fast-Dakar boys but also a wide range of amateurs. After the prologue, there are two further stages followed by some dunes in the last part.
Geert Mulder fell during the stage and suffered some bruised ribs. Mulder who came to the Tuareg Rally for a week of vacation suffered some damaged and it remains to be seen whether he can continue.
In the cars division, father and daughter Broomans became second in the first leg. Other results are not yet known at this time.
Tomorrow the participants will drive a lap around Zagora and they will arrive at Mhamid.
