All systems go for Tuareg Rallye 2018

All teams and crews arrived in Midelt Saturday to prepare for the 2018 Tuareg Rallye which starts on Sunday. The administrative and technical checks have been completed and everyone is ready to start the competition.

More than 140 participants gathered Saturday at the Hotel Taddart in Midelt to complete the checks before the race really starts on Sunday. Among this years Tuareg Rallye a lot of nationalities are participating. Among the Europeans are a lot of British, Italians, Germans, Dutch, Belgian, France and Finnisch crews and riders. Though there are quite a few long distance travellers participating this year. Sebastián Múscari and Pablo Roa came all the way from Argentina to compete in this years race. Both riders have experience in rally-raid but are about to make their debut in Morocco.

Most of the top names of the bike category in last years race are back. Multiple winner Thorsten Kaiser is back but goes up to a strong opposition this year. Dominique Robin and Mathieu Delmotte finished on the podium last year and see a chance for the win this year. In the quad race there will be a new winner this year. With nine riders in competition there is a lot to fight for this year.

21 crews are ready to battle for the win in the car category. Bowler is back strong this year with a five car charge. The Spanish MRacing crew led by Jesus Henriquez Navarro has changed car since last year. The team is now driving with the McRea Buggy that participated in the Dakar Rally a few years ago. Navarro played down expectations as he only tested one hour with the car back in Europe. Bernd Jäger is back with the strong and eye-catching Volkswagen-van. Also father and daughter Broomans have made their way back to Morocco for participation in this years race. Five SxS crews are in their own competition aiming for the win. X-Raid boss Sven Quandt is back this year to aim for the win. They’ve showed in the past to be competitive. The other crews have to prove a point in the next days.

The 2018 Tuareg Rallye contains seven stages with lots of different types of terrain. During the first stage on Sunday the competitors will cross the High Atlas where snow can play a part. In the second part of the stages the riders and crews will have to cope with fast tracks where a mistake can be made easy. The pro’s in the race will cross the first dunes. It won’t be the last of this week…
