Thorsten Kaiser, Rients Hofstra and Matyas Somfai were crowned champions of the 2017 Tuareg Rally in Saidia. After six stages from Midelt via Merzouga to Saidia they won their respective categories.
Kaiser dominating for fifth Tuareg win
Ik the bike category German Thorsten Kaiser dominated for most of the rally. Kaiser won four stages and had a massive advantage in the overall classification. It's a fifth overall win for the German who thanked his team afterwards.
Kaiser finished in front of Dominique Robin and Mathieu Delmotte in the overall classification. Delmotte enjoyed his Tuareg Rally very much and wasn’t concentrating on the rankings at all. “I just tried to enjoy myself on the bike”, Delmotte said. “I really liked it and have had a good week.”
The last stage was won by Harite Gabari.
Solid drive by Hofstra to win in car-category
Rients Hofstra and his navigator Evert Boersma came to the Tuareg Rally for the first time. With success, the two won the overall classification by a clear margin of four hours. “In the first days we had some trouble with navigation because of the way we normally drive. A lot of dangerous spots were not in the roadbook, so we had to rely on our eyes only. That was difficult.”
Hofstra finished in front of father and son Tosenovsky with the Nissan of the FENIX Rally Team. The Libanese team of Fodil Alahoum and Giacomo Toguorini finished in third but won the last stage.
Somfai gets double during successful Tuareg Rally
Matyas Somfai not only won the quad-category during the Tuareg Rally, he also asked his girlfriend to marry him. Somfai received the answer ’Yes’ and didn’t make any mistakes on the quad. Somfai finished in front of Aleksander Piorctynski and Gerard List.
