Sad day during fifth stage of Tuareg Rally

Competitors rode in the fifth stage of the Tuareg Rally four laps of twenty kilometres through the dunes and finished on the biggest dune of the rally. It was a sad day for the family of the sport.

In the Bike pro-category Thorsten Kaiser didn’t win for the first time in this rally. Fredrik Johansson did win with a minute advantage to Kaiser. Magnus Österberg finished third in the fifth stage.

Kaiser still leads the overall classification with a big advantage of four hours. Dominique Robin is second just in front of Belgian Mathieu Delmotte. After the podium there’s a big gap due to Andrea Fesani who didn’t start in the fifth stage. Kay-Arne Bulsink finished fourth and has advanced to fourth place overall.

Alex Cole and Emma Osman won the stage in the car-pro category after the first half of the rally was very difficult for then. Osman commented afterwards: “Finally we had a good day today, it was amazing through the dunes.”

Rients Hofstra and Evert Boersma took it easy in the fifth stage but are still leading the Car-pro category with an advantage of four hours.

In the quad-category Sebastian Lodder took revenge with a win. After a bad fourth stage where he did get a massive time penalty, he was victorious in the fifth day. He finished in front of Aleksander Piorczynski and Matyas Somfai who asked his girlfriend to marry him on the final dune.

No stage on Friday

Due to the death of Emanuele Inzerillo, the organization has decided to cancel the timed stages for Friday. Competitors are allowed to drive to Midelt on the road or off-road.
