Hofstra and Kaiser take Kings Stage wins in Tuareg Rally
The third stage in the Tuareg Rally is traditionally the Kings Stage. The organization promised it to be tougher than ever. No false promises were given as the stage was a grueling one for the participants. Only a few finished the complete stage.
The stage found place in the dunes of Erg Chebi where riders had several laps to do. Pro-riders had to do five laps, Experts could do three and the Challengers were doing only one lap through the dunes of Merzouga. The toughness of the rally came hard at the participants with very soft dunes and high temperatures.
Torsten Kaiser was in a class of his own once again. He rode the stage in six hours and 43 minutes, while the nearest competition completed the stage in almost ten hours. The German leads comfortably in the overal classification.
Sebastian Lodder, Matyas Somfai and Aleksander Piorctynski rode together for a long part of the stage but Lodder separated himself in the closing stages. He took the win with an advantage of ten minutes to both Somfai and Prioctynski.
The cars had another big day in the dunes were differences were closed. Rients Hofstra had troubles with navigation in the first days but was fast in the Kings Stage. He took the stage win and has only eight minutes to make up to overtake the crew Alahoum/Tognahiri.
