There are a few surprising new elements in the coming Dakar Rally. Amaury Sports Organisation (ASO) presented more details after the pressconference on wednesday.

One of the well known elements of the Dakar Rally are the marathonstages. There are two of them in the next Dakar. New in the coming edition is that there is no service allowed in the bivak. It means that all repairing has to be done outside of the bivak, on the stage.

In the stage that will find place near the Fiambala dunes a new startorder will be used by ASO. Times of the stage before will be used to arrange an order where the top cars, bikes and trucks can be shuffled. It might be the case that Gerard de Rooy starts in front of Nasser Al-Attiyah. It’s possible that the bikes have to start among cars and trucks. This only will be the case for the top-riders in the overall classification.

There are a few changes in the startprocedure for next Dakar. ASO decided to bring up the gap between the highest placed riders to three minutes. These riders have to rely more on their navigational skills and waiting for other competitors will be a costly part of the rally.

Yesterday, ASO presented more details on the route for the rally and entry-lists.
