Indian rider “CS” Santosh and Portugal’s Joaquim Rodrigues are the first representatives of Hero motorcycles, which is making its rally-raid debut on the Afriquia Merzouga Rally.

It is one of the largest motorcycle manufacturers in the world, with for example nearly 7 million vehicles sold in the past year! In addition to India, Hero motorcycles have been on the road bike scene for quite a while and are sold in some thirty countries. Now they make their way onto the dirt tracks and into the dunes of rally-raid competition, with a maiden outing on the Afriquia Merzouga Rally.

Quite logically, Hero has called upon the services of the only Indian rider on the Dakar “CS” Santosh, who won the admiration of his countrymen when he finished 36th in his first participation in 2015. The Bangalore native will line up alongside a long-time expected newcomer to the discipline. Portuguese rider Joaquim Rodrigues has won multiple national moto-cross and super-cross titles and now he is leaving circuit racing to begin his reconversion.

To put its riders in the best performance conditions possible, Hero is teaming up with Speedbrain GmbH, which will be charged with preparing competitive bikes for them… Merzouga will pose quite a test for this first taste of competition.
