Buggyra presents new Tatra Phoenix in Most
Last week the new Tatra Phoenix was presented to the public for the first time at the truck races at Autodrom Most in the Czech Republic. Buggyra is a team that attends both, Dakar and truck races, although they are contemplating to stop the truck racing in order to focus entirely on Dakar. The good performances on their local racetrack (two out of four races were won ‘double', with their two trucks on first and second place) aren't making that decision any easier.
Jiri Kasparek, head of marketing at Tatra revealed the truck and talked about the 30th anniversary of Tatra in Le Dakar. In 1986 the brand participated for the first time. In 1988, 1994, 1995, 1998, 1999 and 2001 they managed to win, every time with Karel Loprais behind the wheel. In honor of their 30th anniversary Tatra will organise several activities. The Tatra Phoenix with which Buggyra will compete in Le Dakar 2016 is based on the recently presented Euro 6 version of that model. The powertrain, however, is replaced by a component they developed themselves under the name ‘Gyrtech'.
Besides the Phoenix, Buggyra will also use the 815, in which the team has competed before. According to tradition, the 815 will be driven by Kolomy. The Phoenix is driven by Jarosav Valtr ( twofold champion of the Czech off-road marathon). Threefold Dakar winner Josef Kalina is going to navigate, while newcomer George Stross is going to be the mechanic.
In preparation for Le Dakar the entire Buggyra Team will participate in the Rally du Maroc in October.
